Montford Estate 2020 Sauvignon Blanc, 92 Points
Pungent, fresh, loaded with aromas of tropical fruits and fresh herbs, passionfruit and lemon, basil and capsicum, apple and gooseberry. On the palate - intense, crunchy, fresh, salivating, a touch of sea salt and flavours that reflect the nose. Balanced , fresh and ready to enjoy from today and through 2022.
Montford Estate 2020 Rosé, 90 Points
Classic rosé flavours of fresh strawberry and red melon, red cherry and chilled peach tea. Delicate, floral and pretty. Crunchy, fresh and youthful with plenty of acidity and fruit flavours that reflect the nose. Super fine fruit tannins, perfectly balanced and well made. Best drinking from today and through 2022.
Montford Estate 2020 Pinot Gris, 90 Points
Aromas and flavours of fresh, just picked Asian pears, apples and honeysuckle. Bright, fresh and crunchy textures on the palate with flavours that reflect the nose. Medium+ acidity, nicely weighted. There’s a squeeze of citrus through the palate and a touch of zest right on the finish. Balanced and well made. Ready from today and through 2022.
Montford Estate 2020 Chardonnay, 90 Points
Familiar and classic with aromas of ripe yellow peach and apple, grapefruit, vanilla custard and cream, cashew nut and barrel spices of oak. Silky textures on the palate with creamy peach and vanilla flavours, apple, lemon and grapefruit follow. Some toasty wood moments and fine wood tannins add texture and mouthfeel. Plenty of weight and acidity, balanced, well made and ready to drink upon purchase. Best drinking from 2021 through 2023+.
Montford Estate Central Otago 2019 Pinot Noir, 90 Points
Ripe, fleshy, fruity and varietal bouquet. Hallmarks of a classic Otago Pinot are on show with fruits scents of fresh raspberry and red cherry, a mild wild thyme savoury line and stony mineral core. Aromas follow through on the palate as flavours that mirror the nose with raspberry, and wild red cherry, a foundation of firm-ish chalky textured tannins, youthful acid line and a savoury mineral under-currant. Best drinking from purchase and through 2024+.
Montford Estate 2019 'Manny' (Unreleased), 92 Points
I tasted this wine in October 2020 - so it’s great to be able to try it again six months later. Still youth and fresh with aromas and flavours of black currant and olive, blackberry and dark plum. Some toasty barrel spices of clove and baked vanilla add complexity and depth along with a mild tobacco note. Medium+ weight and intensity on the palate with dark fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. Firm tannins and acidity ensure this wine has a decent foundation and will reward those who cellar this wine till end of 2022. Lengthy finish with a core of fruit, texture and flavour. Best drinking 2022 through 2026+.
